( SO. MUCH. LEATHER. )
Overall that episode left me very conflicted, especially after the Caitlin Moran Debacle; the references to the fans and the fandom didn't feel respectful or an homage but rather dismissive and mocking IMO. Which -- not cool. Or maybe it would have been fine if the creators of the show hadn't repeatedly called the fangirls delusional after playing fast and loose with queer baiting, screaming NO HOMO at the top of their lungs and if there hadn't been Morangate. Also it would actually make a change if the fan viewpoint wasn't constantly played for laughs. Dude, you're fanboys yourselves. Don't think you're better than us, some fics are leagues above this episode, come the fuck on.
There's also a horrible thought that crossed my mind: it's that the treatment of the fans within this episode maybe actually gave Caitlin Moran inspiration and sort of enabled her to do what she did. I'm not saying Gatiss is responsible for what happened, but when you start to make fun of the fans like that I guess increases the odds of something like that happening.
Anyway, my theory is that so far in each season of Sherlock, there's two very good if not brilliant episodes, and then there's always one that's a bit rubbish if not complete crap (The Blind Banker in season 1 and Hounds of the Baskerville in season 2). After watching The Sign of Three, I think The Empty Hearse might very well be the rubbish one. Which is a shame, really, because The Empty House is one of the most iconic Sherlock Holmes stories from canon and, again, most fics that revolved around Sherlock's return during the hiatus were more solid plot-wise and more satisfying emotion-wise. So personal message to Mofftiss: don't mock the fans if you can't do better than them, guys. Try to write good stories. That's what we do.
Let's do the rest in bullet points, since I can't be arsed to write up a proper review:
( You left me in the dark )
Hmmm it seems I'm a bit grumpy today so it shows in my review which appears more negative than I intended. I didn't hate that episode all that much, really; it's just that as a season opener for a show that's been on hiatus for TWO YEARS, it felt a bit like a letdown.
Luckily, The Sign of Three set everything right again for me and I think it skyrocketed to first place as my favourite Sherlock episode of all three seasons (even the mystery was good! Well done, show, well done!).
Now I need fics, angsty fanvids and angsty songs to make some angsty fanvids myself. Yeah.
Overall, liked it. I think it could have been better, but still, fairly decent writing and mostly good episode.
I need to watch it again and then write more about my feelings.
Just one thing I've decided tho: ANTHEA IS OUR COULSON. That is all.
Rating: NC-17, god so much NC-17
Fandom/Pairing: Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan, Reiner Braun/Bertholdt Hoover/Annie Leonhardt
Warnings: all the plot what plot but sometimes the porn gets weirdly emotional because I'm me. Also threesome, M/M/F. And potential spoilers from the manga at the end so if you're sticking to the anime you might not want to read it.
Summary: Deep down, Bertholdt thinks he doesn't belong with Annie and Reiner. They'll fuck him out and prove him wrong.
Comments: It's that time of the year again, where I write the filthiest piece of porn possible. I LOVE Shingeki no Kyojin, it's brought back the weeaboo in me full force, but the weird thing is that my real OTP of the show is Erwin/Levi... and here I am, writing Reiner/Bertholdt/Annie for no other reason that they really look fucking hot together (also I couldn't resist making Bertholdt the filling of a delicious "busty blondes" sandwich). My headcanon is that Annie and Reiner dote on Bertholdt very much even though he feels stupidly inadequate around them and tries to compensate all the time.
There are very cute (and very hot) fanarts of those three that inspired me for this fic here, and here (I kind of resent how hot they look together, TBH)
The title was inspired by Lorde's song "Glory and Gore" (youtube link)
In fact I've made a little playlist to accompany me in the writing of this fic, you can listen to it here if you want: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

( Oh what a shame that you came here with someone )
( Possible spoilers for Sherlock and new Who under the cut )
Messing around with colour pencils. I miss Freddie.
Have you guys signed the petition to #savethehour yet? http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/
(I know, I'm being, as Ben Whishaw would say, a complete anorak about it. I'll post other stuff soon).
Here's my contribution (with my crappy handwriting):
I'll send a couple of postcards more (I made my roommates write them so that they'll think it comes from different persons, I'll also post them from different postboxes in Paris, I'm positively machiavellian haaaaaHAHAHA ahem) but this one was the prettiest, plus there's a lion in it (get it? Get it??)
And don’t forget about the petition guys! Just a few signatures to go before hitting the 15,000 mark! http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/
I’m… very, very invested in this #savethehour campaign. Ridiculously so. The Hour is a show that touched me a lot. It’s not perfect, it has its flaws, but I feel completely drawn to it for reasons I can’t even explain (well, the directing indeed is flawless, and so is the acting, and the overall cinematography is stunningly beautiful, so those reasons are good enough I guess). I get emotional just looking at gif sets when I check the tag on Tumblr. It’s the show that has revealed Ben Whishaw’s talent to me (and fuck but that guy is the most brilliant actor I’ve ever seen). I didn’t want to go see Skyfall at first and when I learned that he was in it, I went running to the nearest cinema.
His character Freddie Lyon is incredible. I can’t explain why exactly either. He just feel very real, very human, tangible, like someone you might know. He’s complex: idealistic, brilliant, but also a morally ambiguous, manipulative asshole, sharp as a knife but also full of subtleties (reminding me somehow of a young Alain Delon as Tom Ripley in Purple Noon by René Clément, one of my favourite films ever). I bawled my eyes out at the end of series 2, all because of the perfect symbiosis between Ben Whishaw and Freddie Lyon. Any other actor and it probably wouldn’t have been such a punch to the gut. And I want more of it. More punches to the gut, please.
And then there’s Romola Garai and her character Bel Rowley, both of whom I desperately crush on. She is —they both are — in Freddie’s words, exquisite. Such charisma is rarely seen on television (don’t even get me started on all the other fantastic actors on this show, from Dominic West to Anna Chancellor and Peter Capaldi and Oona Chaplin, oh my god do they grow them on trees in the UK or what, how is it possible to have such a high concentration of quality acting on such a small screen??), and I want more of that, all of that, too.
I recommended The Hour to most people I know, even wrote a glittering review about it in the French magazine I work for. When I learned through Tumblr that the BBC might not commission a third series, I immediately wrote to them through their website to tell them how good it was, how much I loved it and that I really hoped there would be more episodes soon. And then the official anouncement came out, the very same day, that the show was axed.
Immediately, I signed the petition that’s been going around, and even created myself a Twitter account just to participate to the #savethehour trending effort. I’ve been regularly checking that the petition was gaining more and more signatures too (seriously, I keep refreshing the page, it’s ridiculous, technically I have other things to do with my life).
I don’t usually do this, and I wouldn’t do this for any other show. But The Hour is quality. As a comics author, I’ve had a comics series stopped after only the second volume came out because the books didn’t sell enough. It was one of the most horrible, heartbreaking moments of my (still young) life. There was nothing I could do about it, and I loved my story and my characters but nothing could save them at the time and I had to let them go. I don’t know if it’s why I’m so emotionally involved in what’s happening to The Hour, but I feel that at least for this one fight, there is hope. That the fans can actually do something about it and make a difference. Let them feel the power of our love!
tl;dr : If you also love The Hour and want a third series, you can sign the petition and spread it around: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/
If you don’t know the show, I urge you to watch it and then give it your support because there is a good chance that you will fall in love with it like I did.
Here's a petition that's been started after the end of season 2, if you love the show, please spread it around: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/
Also, I don't have a Twitter account, but could someone who has one pass this on to Caitlin Moran's Twitter? I know she’s a huge fan of the show (and Ben Whishaw), maybe she can advertise it or something?
Let's pull a Firefly on this, guys!
I AM VERY EMOTIONAL ABOUT THE HOUR'S SEASON FINALE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THESE FEELINGS

IN FACT I CAN'T WRAP MY HEAD AROUND HOW MANY INCREDIBLE ACTORS THERE ARE ON THIS ONE SHOW, WHY IS EVERYONE SO GOOD?? UGH GODDAMMIT BRITISH ACTORS YOU MAKE EVERYONE ELSE AROUND THE WORLD LOOK BAD
IF YOU SAW THAT EPISODE TOO PLEASE SHARE YOUR FEELINGS WITH ME I CAN'T COPE IF I'M ALONE IN THIS
Even if you try to pretend it's not Sherlock Holmes at all, it doesn't really work as a detective story, and it's a whole boring mess.
I have my qualms about the mysteries in Sherlock, I think many things about them don't work and have major logical flaws, but in the end it doesn't really matter, because on the whole it's entertaining as hell. And the whole world discussed at large the chemistry between Cumberbatch and Freeman that is so incredible and shiny you could see it from the moon.
In Elementary, as much as I love both Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller separately, it just doesn't work. The characters are sketchy at best, lacking depth, there's just nothing between them to chew on; the relationship dynamics between them were so sloppy and uninteresting. I think it must be because of a huge casting error: Liu should have been Holmes, there's no way around it. I can't believe they haven't thought of that first. During the whole episode it was so screamingly blatant it was distracting. And the only other character that I liked was Gregson. Gregson was awesome (and a bit sexy). Again, I love Jonny Lee Miller, I think he's a truly great actor, but he had nothing to do in there. Liu as Holmes, anyone else as Watson (Archie Panjabi?
Hmmm oh God yes. I would loves me some Archie Panjabi as Watson. She would totally qualify as badass ex-army doctor IMO)
Oh, god, and the mystery. The mystery was so crappy even I could have thought of something better. Even as a basic murder-of-the-week formula show it just doesn't work, WTF CBS, seriously.
I really wanted to like it. No, I mean, really. We'll have to wait months again before season 3 begins, and I wanted to have at least Elementary to nimble on in between, but now I don't really want to watch the rest.
