I'm so with you on this, and it's really weird indeed for an HBO project, because generally most of their shows have really superb photography (Rome, The Sopranos, I mean, not just Six Feet Under!)... which brings me to think that it's a conscious and voluntary artistic choice... *shudders* Like, "they're vampires, right, so it's time for neon blue filter like there's no tomorrow baby!", just like J.J. OMG I love the expression "barbarian firecracker", I love eeeeeet! XD And, yeah, I couldn't quite recognize Godric "after" either, I was like, wait, where's the sexpot with dreadlocks we saw on episode 5? Who's this guy? Did they fire the first one and then find a last-minute replacement?
But I have to say the way you explained this in "The Child" made total sense, though, how he became all depressed and translucent and tired of living eternally; the producers should hire you to write a show based on Godric and Eric, for serious.
