sevenswells: (Family Fun Time Double Holmes Squee)
sevenswells ([personal profile] sevenswells) wrote2010-09-28 10:52 pm

BEHOLD: Sherlock neverending rec post OF DOOM!

I'M *STILL* WORKING ON MY FUCKING SCRIPTS. FUCK MY LIFE.

So before I can come back with fic (yes, TAoLaC chapter 3, and nothing else ^^), here are some recs of BBC Sherlock fics -- including specific categories like "matchmaker!Mycroft" and "dysfunctional, crazy-as-fuck!Sherlock" -- categories which I enjoy particularly.
They're all Sherlock/John slash fics (except the few ones about the Holmes brothers <3 not incestuous, mind you; there is also a category for "Other/Unclassifiable") -- because any other pairing wouldn't work for me. Yes, I love Rupert Graves as Lestrade, yes I love Moriarty -- heck, I love all of them, even Anderson (and sometimes *especially* Anderson XD). But Sherlock and John to me is an unbreakable OTP -- Sherlock or John with anyone else just feels very wrong to me. And they need to be together, as in, fucking each other's brains out. I've noticed that asexual!Sherlock fics kind of make me sad, no matter how well written and IC and logical they are -- intellectually, I understand where the current trend in the fandom is coming from, and I guess I also possess the intellectual tools to understand asexuality in general, but it just doesn't compute with my philosophy of life, which is basically a very sexual one. It clashes so much with my first instincts that it's like a whole alien civilization to me. So, no asexual!Sherlock fics, even though I've read perfectly good and interesting ones.

Oh, but I've included some fanvids too -- it's on the house! This post also contains various stupid gifs, some of them a little heavy. Sissy bandwidths may want to keep out.

***Category: "These fics will convince you of the rightfulness of this pairing if nothing else"
. They're fics I would recommend to anyone; be wary, though: reading them might result in your brain being eaten by the fandom. You might recognize the symptoms if what goes on daily in your mind looks like this:

This is *precisely* what's going on in mine, at any rate... =0= Dammit, Sherlock, leave me alone! >.<

*The Hour of Separation by [livejournal.com profile] vegarin . Rating: PG. Beautiful, heart-breaking fic, and ultimately wonderfully romantic. I cried a little tear over this one (if you tell anyone I'll kill you).

*A Study in Sexuality by [livejournal.com profile] jupiter_ash  : part 1/part 2. Rating: R/NC-17. A very clever fic that takes a very interesting position regarding sexual orientation. Loved it to bits, and it reflects very much the way I view sexuality in general too. The construction of the whole is genius.

*Let You Kiss Me (So Sweet and So Soft) by [livejournal.com profile] out_there  . Rating: PG. Yet another clever fic (they are numerous in this fandom, for serious!) where Sherlock kisses John repeatedly... because he has a plan. I loved this one because it exploited extremely well Sherlock!logic, with actual layers, despite the rather simple prompt.

*Unwelcome Truths Are Not Popular by [livejournal.com profile] ryanbrendonlove . Rating: PG. Excellent ficlet that goes deeper behind John and Sherlock's first scene in the taxi, in A Study In Pink.

*The Thermodynamics series by [livejournal.com profile] entangled_now . Rating: from PG-13 to NC-17. And pretty much everything she writes on [livejournal.com profile] libraryofsol ; it's damn good stuff!

*The Perils of Urban Warfare by [livejournal.com profile] phantomjam . Rating: PG-13. Sherlock versus John's therapist -- guess who wins XD. Excellent fic, the psychology is well developped. Everybody's recc'ed it already, but I needed to do it too, it totally deserves it.

*Revolutions by [livejournal.com profile] lady_t_220  . Rating: NC-17. Oooh how I love this one. A very sensuous fic, sexy, sexy smut, extra bonus points for the kisses descriptions. Check out her other fics too on [livejournal.com profile] den_of_folly  , she writes excellent stuff. <3<3<3

*Delayed Reaction by [livejournal.com profile] cj_ludd18 . Rating: PG-13. Funny, witty prose, I like how swift and businesslike Sherlock is in this one XD

*Oh, But You're An Explosion by [livejournal.com profile] mardia  . Rating: NC-17. Lovely, lovely smut, and extra bonus points for John and Sally's interaction (don't tell anyone but I sikritly love Sally <3)

*Who Wants to Be Normal, Anyway? (Abnormality Is Much More Fun) by [livejournal.com profile] podicus  . Rating: PG-13. A fic that definitely deserves its title: Sherlock is downright weird (not enough to go into the "crazy as fuck" category though, just your normal autistic genius) and it's very fun.

*First Time For Everything/First Time For Everything.1 by [livejournal.com profile] calikocat  . Rating: NC-17. Awkward first-time sex, Sherlock being his weird self, and John being veeeery patient as usual. Alternance of POVs - very nice.

*Testing (One, Two) by [livejournal.com profile] seraphina_snape  . Rating: NC-17. In which Sherlock needs a hand. Lovely porn!

*Height, Or Lack Thereof by [livejournal.com profile] flying_android  . Rating: PG-13. Sherlock evaluates the difference of height between him and John. This one is terribly cute, and turned me into a puddle of goo by the end.

*Impropriety Be Damned by [livejournal.com profile] ptelefolone  (whom I also recced a little further down for another fic). Rating: NC-17. "Having sex on the floor of John's room while Mrs. Hudson and Mycroft are downstairs". Well, all I can say is HOT DAMN!!!! See also by the same author: Keep Me Close. *fans self*

*Experimental Method by [livejournal.com profile] ginbitch  . Rating: PG. Fic based on actual experimental method, but with hilarious Sherlockian twist and a (kind of) fluffly ending.

*Play For Me Tonight by [livejournal.com profile] ruyu  . John masturbating to the sound of Sherlock's violin -- great description of the music, very sensual, and the gradation is nicely brought.

*Lab Book by sam-storyteller on Dreamwidth. Rating: NC-17. A Christmas fic that made me squeal and coo so much (John calling Sherlock a  giraffe was so unbearably cute! >.<) See also: It's Not The Violin by the same author, only because Sherlock+GaGa is just awesome. No need to explain, really -->

***Category: "Matchmaker!Mycroft"
. This category is kind of a huge guilty pleasure of mine and fics that belong to it make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I adore Mycroft, and I love it even more when he meddles in Sherlock's budding love affair with John, because Sherlock is too much of a hopeless autistic geek to man up and just have buttsecks with John like he desperately wants to. So Big Brother takes charge, and he's going to fucking make it work like Tim "with me, 'camp' actually means 'badass' " Gunn would say.

I CAN KILL YOU WITH MY BRAIN. (gif by the marvellous [livejournal.com profile] sherlockiangirl  )

*The Proposition by [livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace . Rating: NC-17. This one is actually ULTIMATE!matchmaker!Mycroft. Well you should read the fic to understand, but I loved the ending. It was a very bold move for the author, and some readers didn't like it, but at least it bears my seal of approval! You go, girl! I also loved Sherlock in this one; definitely belongs to the "crazy as fuck" category below as well.
[edit]: HOLY CRAP [livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace  WROTE A SEQUEL!! GO READ IT HERE: The Proposition part 2 IT'S FUCKING AWESOME *major flail* I didn't even know in which category I should put it, because it can totally belong to the "crazy as fuck" category as well as the "kinky as fuck" one. <3 Oh, the LOVE. It BURNS <*0*>

*Getting The Message by [livejournal.com profile] loveslashangst  . Rating: R to NC-17. Oooooh those girls are good. The interactions between the characters are so IC, and overall the plot promises a veeery satisfactory development (I can't wait!!). Go read their '09 movie slash too, it's worth it.

*A Matter of National Security, by anon (commentfic). Rating: PG I guess. In which Mycroft finds various ways to sabotage John's dates so Sherlock doesn't turn into a national threat -- oh, this one is brilliant, and tear-jerkingly funny. Mycroft's voice down to a tee! XD

*The Daily Diary of Mr. Mycroft Holmes by [livejournal.com profile] dragonsquill  . Rating: G. Brilliance. Yes, Mycroft's diary totally looks like that.

*Swimming with a Raincoat by [livejournal.com profile] igrab . Rating: PG-13. Oh God I'm so frustrated that this one is not finished. But it's so fucking good I can't help but rec it anyway. It doesn't exactly fit into the matchmaker!Mycroft category, nevertheless, I thought the relationship of the Holmes brothers was incredibly well depicted, especially this passage that I simply adore and would like to frame above my bed: They don't have normal conversations. Oh, when other people are around, they attempt to - they make a bit of a game of it, coyly snarking and deducing at each other and showing off their sharp, pretty minds. Alone, however, they can do away with all that.

*Sibling Rivalry, by [livejournal.com profile] lisson17  : part 1/part 2/part 3/part 4. Rating: PG to R. A hilarious and thorougly enjoyable fic where Mycroft keeps kidnapping John, except that the location gets better and better...

*And You're The Prize by [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek  . Rating: NC-17. To get his little brother to screw John at last, Mycroft ties up a nekkid John to a bed and sets Sherlock on a scavenger hunt in order to find and rescue him. I fully approve. (>0<)-b Mycroft is awesome.

*Some Friendly Advice by [livejournal.com profile] axidentalquark  . Rating: PG-13. Mycroft will have John's balls if he breaks Sherlock's heart, and intends to make it perfectly clear to him.

***Category: "Crazy-as-fuck!Sherlock". I adore the fics where Sherlock is presented like a true psychopath, and potentially dangerous. I must say those fics are particularly good; subtle, well-researched and overall extremely believable. I love each one of them to death.

I'M IN UR MORTUARY SCRUTINIZING UR CORPSES.
(gif by [livejournal.com profile] sherlockiangirl  )

First, anything by [livejournal.com profile] wordstrings  , but particularly:

*The Paradox Suite. Rating: NC-17. Best description of breathplay ever (maybe I should've put it in the "kinky as fuck" category below). *__* AND this fic is actually a pendant (with John's POV) to the true masterpiece that is:

*The Death and Resurrection of the English Language : part 1/part 2. Rating: NC-17. I can't even begin to describe how much I love this fic. It's eighty different kinds of perfect and it pushed allllllll my buttons. Sherlock's voice is so vivid and *right*... It's a true gem, really. Read it, if it's the last thing you do.

*Autopsis by [livejournal.com profile] spikeface  . Rating: NC-17. This one is wildly popular and has every reason to be: it's a truly awesome fic, I love it like BURNING. Sherlock appears even more disturbed and fucked in the head than in The Death and Resurrection... I think, which I wholly approve. Everybody and their mother have already recc'ed it, but I don't care, I can join the chorus. Yeah I'm totally wild like that.

*Lost Week-End by garryowen (on Dreamwidth). Rating: NC-17. John is away for one week-end and Sherlock is left to his own devices: HIDE EVERYTHING YOU VALUE AND HOLD DEAR! \°0°/ I think in this one Sherlock's actually only half-crazy; the other half is him being an insufferable brat. There's still a good deal of completely mental shit going on, though. XD

***Category: "Kinky-as-fuck!Sherlock". Yeah you know it. Sherlock is one kinky bastard; various kinks, all of them delicious.

Appropriate gif is appropriate.

*The Khyber Knife by [livejournal.com profile] ariadnes_string  . Rating: NC-17. John+Sherlock+Khyber Knife=hot! Goes a little into the category of "crazy-as-fuck!Sherlock" too, I guess.

*Breaking Sherlock by [livejournal.com profile] thirdbird_fic . Rating: NC-17. "Sherlock has a penchant for pain." No shit, er... You know who. Great S&M fic, the author made it quite natural, and I do think it fits the character.

*Between Two Lungs by [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot  . Rating: NC-17. I think I like breathplay and Sherlock a little too much. I guess since The Blind Banker the fangirls have decided that Benedict makes strangulation look good... and, well, who am I to contradict that?

*That Which Sustains by [livejournal.com profile] caffienekitty  . Rating: R. Hemophagia with a sensitive, organic style. Very nice indeed.

***Category: "The Holmes brothers. 'nuff said." Did I mention how much I adore them, and their dynamics together?

(gif by [livejournal.com profile] sherlockiangirl  )

*Sonata by [livejournal.com profile] coryphaeusrex . Rating: PG. A cute one-shot where it's proven that Mycroft and Sherlock are actually able to get along. I swear. Well, under certain circumstances.

*The Rabbit Hops Over the Log by [livejournal.com profile] snowlight . Rating: G. A truly adorable and very spot-on fic about young!Mycroft and young!Sherlock where Mycroft shows Sherlock how to knot his tie. See also by the same author: Stradivarius and Grace (rating: PG-13) -- I think I kind of love anything that mixes the Holmeses and music; the ending of this one was very touching.

*Sonata Form by [livejournal.com profile] cj_ludd18 . Rating: PG-13. A beautiful, breathtaking presentation of Mycroft's inner thoughts and his sentiments towards his younger brother.

*Headache by [livejournal.com profile] chocolate_limes . Rating: G. Sherlock has monstrous headaches, but Mycroft knows how to deal with them. Not incestuous! Not incestuous I swear!

***Category: "Who cares about categories?" Unclassifiable stuff, but incredibly good fics nonetheless.

(gif by [livejournal.com profile] stupid_drawings )

*Savagely Brutal and Utterly Divine by [livejournal.com profile] ptelefolone . Rating: NC-17. Oh how I love this fic and its title. Beautifully written (ptelefolone is a great writer), a dark and delicious fic that depicts a Sherlock from an AU (or is it really?) who gave in to his dark side. Sexy and elegant, just like the bastard.

*The Devil's Footprint by [livejournal.com profile] linaerys . Rating: R. A Sherlock/Inception crossover that works surprisingly well. She totally had me at the bit where (spoil - highlight to see)Sherlock and John grow old together(/spoil) it just made my heart flutter and ache a little.

*Objects (or Why Mycroft Needs His Umbrella) by [livejournal.com profile] ryanbrendonlove . Rating: PG. A hilarious and utterly *right* fic about how some iconical objects define their owners. Three words: made. Of. Win.

*The Art of Scheduling, or, How Mycroft Came to Realize He Was Well and Truly Fucked by [livejournal.com profile] igrab . Rating: PG-13. An amazing Mycroft/Anthea fic. That's right. I can rec het fics. How crazy is that, huh? You know you bitches are too damn vanilla for my kink!

*Reader by [livejournal.com profile] liberateourtime . Rating: PG-13. Surprisingly great AU with telekinetic!John and telepathic!Sherlock, I would have never thought it could work so well. I wish the author would turn it into a series, I think it would be absolutely gripping.

*London Calling by [livejournal.com profile] chaletian . Rating: PG. A short fic about John and his relationship to his mobile phone. The bit at the end with Mycroft had me laughing to tears (not to mention Anderson, of course XD).

*Umbrellas, Kebabs and Saveloys, What Next Is The Question? by [livejournal.com profile] katharynne . Rating: PG-13. Not slash, but I had a good laugh with this one. It's sheer, utter crack, and crack makes me happee! Wheeee! \o/

***And now on to the fanvids:

**Get your coat by [livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior . First (and maybe only) coat porn vid IN THE WHOLE WORLD. The editing is brilliant and it makes the Coat of Sexiness even more sexy than it already is -- WHICH IS FUCKING HEROIC.

**Sherlock'd In His Pants by [livejournal.com profile] ddraggy . Funny as hell -- Sherlock and The Lonely Island's Jizz In My Pants. I don't know where the vidder got this idea, but it's just pure EPIC WIN.

**Whole New Way by [livejournal.com profile] mresundance . Kickass editing, I absolutely love the double entendre (yes, the fangirls too have found a whole new way to love this pairing, with each adaptation) and the meta references, it makes the message of the vid quite deep, but it doesn't make it any less fun and enjoyable. Nota Bene: You know you really need to get a life when you actually recognize some of the fandom references in this vid... Yeah...

This fandom is incredible, really. I think I've read some of my favourite fics *ever* in it -- it seems there are so many clever and subtle people around writing Sherlock/John slash, it's amazing. Oh, fandom. I love you. And now I'll leave you with this macro that makes me gigglesnort each time I see it:

[edit] By the way, if there are fics (Sherlock or otherwise) you want to rec me, don't hesitate to share on this post! ^^
