His Last Vow -- first impressions

Blablabla need more time to sit down and think about that episode but er... It felt a lot like recent Doctor Who writing (by... guess whom? Yes, Steven Moffat! That's the one!). Where you start the episode and think "wow hey great start this is actually quite good" and then by the end you're like "wat what WHAT? WHAT? WHAT THE FUCK? THAT DOESN'T MAKE EVEN A LICK OF SENSE!"

So my opinion for now is: good moments here and there, but bullshit plot all over. I'll develop more on all that later.

Thank goodness, finally someone agrees with me. I wanted to watch Sherlock, not badly-written Dr. Who.

THIS ^^^

I was happy with Sherlock being not as crappy as current Who, but that'll teach me to trust Moffat with anything, apparently.

Agreed - though loved the scene with them smoking in the garden - that whole thing at their house was good. Then the pacing went all wonky and it just got...meh. And Moffatt can't write women, imo.

And that giff! I LOVE IT!!! Hilarious film.

Oh my god it's true, that's exactly when it all turned to shit. What the fuck was up with that resolution? And it's true he can't write women, River Song is easily one of the most badly written characters in TV history and he just riversonged Mary Morstand too. Jesus fucking christ.

OMG you love Galaxy Quest too!!!! Let me hug you!!!

By Grabthar's Hammer, you'd better believe it!

[identity profile] julie-izumi.livejournal.com 2014-01-13 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! I was happy Sherlock didn't suffer from the same shitty writting as DW does now so far, but wow this one jumped right into it! Blurg! And did Mary had to be that kind of woman... AGAIN! Arg, so frustrating!

[identity profile] sevenswells.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
I agree completely.

And did Mary had to be that kind of woman... AGAIN!

Yeah I don't know why he thinks River Song is the best character ever written and that he should turn all his female characters into her, because the rest of the world really doesn't share that opinion.

Yep!
I would be his wife, I would ask myself some questions... Do we all have to be psychopath to be interesting?! lol

Ugh, the last minute of that episode basically ruined the rest of the episode for me. Like, I was pretty with it up until then--even if there were parts in the middle where I was like, "Uh, you realize that this could all be avoided if you just--oh, never mind, okay, I guess I'm enjoying the visuals here"--and then the last 60 seconds basically rendered the previous 89 minutes totally pointless. I almost threw something at the TV.

What do you mean the last minute? Is it Moriarty's return? God I don't know, I don't care if it's all stupid as hell and they say they've invented the pill that cures from bullet in the head injury (I've given up on any logic in this show, which is sad), I just really, REALLY want him back, I DID miss him. And I just hope to god it's not another stupid fucking "plot twist" where it's not really him because I'll probably give up on the show altogether like I gave up on Doctor Who.

This said, I also hope that Moriarty won't become Moffat's personal Dalek that he can bring back willy-nilly when things get too dull and nothing else can keep people's interest, and without any explanation.

Ah, man. I don't know. I'm very disappointed with this season and the only episode worth watching for me was The Sign of Three. And yet I've seen many people say that episode is too OOC and it doesn't look like the same show, but the thing is, if Mofftiss had known how to keep the ball and handled the emotion and characterisation right in The Empty Hearse and throughout this series, The Sign of Three wouldn't have felt OOC at all, is my personal opinion. *shrugs*

Yeah, I mean Moriarty's return. idk, bringing back Moriarty--feels like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel. Like you said, it's like throwing in some Daleks or Weeping Angels when things get too dull, and there are only so many great Holmes villains. (God forbid they just...idk...have some actual mysteries?)

I think it's jumped the shark; not surprising, since I think most shows peak at season three and slide downhill after that. I thought maybe Sherlock would be different, since the seasons are so short, but--ergh! I really enjoyed 3SIG, even though it was an episode in which literally nothing happened, because it was watching fanfiction, and that was very enjoyable.

I would watch S4, but I don't have terribly high expectations for it. Which is not a bad thing! If S4 turns out to be good, then I will be pleasantly surprised!

The first half was pretty good.

The second half was utter rubbish.

(That being said, I don't actually think Moriarty's back. ~pet theories~)
