Any chance any of you knows his/her way around physics and math? I've got a very specific question to ask, for a fic. If you have the answer to that I will be forever grateful.

Say, if you drop by airplane a cast-iron kitchen sink (approx. 130 pounds) at an altitude of 6000 meters; say that drop speed is about more than 200 km per hour (if I'm not mistaken), would it be enough for said sink to smash into a concrete slab (for the foundations of a small building, like a house; let's say the height of the slab is about 40 cm) down below, and how much damage will it do? Like, how deep would the sink land? Any chance it would shatter the slab?

I know, that's very precise, but if you've any idea, I'd be glad to know the answer and will love you forever.

Even though I'm as helpless at math/physics as Einstein sucked with directions (actually, I'm also as clueless as he was with directions...) I'm azezztrty enthusiastic about you writing new fic. And I can't help hoping it's piglet fic. But just Sherlock/John would do ^^.

Well it's for one of the fics I want to write, yes, and yes, it's at least *partly* Sherlock/John. In fact it's gonna be one giant crossover of Sherlock, Dirk Gently, Misfits, and a bit of Black Books; supposedly it will be crack, too, but I want my crack to be based on srs trufax like "can a kitchen sink dropped by plane shatter a concrete slab?" Yeah. Go figure. I will be using a lot of google and wikipedia for this one I think. I do love research, though. ^^
It's good that you reminded me of the piglet fic, btw, I need to write that down on my long list of plot bunnies that I will take care of *after* stupid fucking paperwork. Oooh, shiny.
