sevenswells: (This is not Sparta I am lost)

Ooooh this is good stuff -- this is EXACTLY the kind of eroticism and sensuality I like (bonus points for the woman in power, hell yes), Tom Burke is delicious in it (especially with that kind of lighting dear god, and might I add, his full frontal is VERY NICE), wow wow wow, FIVE STARS

Title: We Can't Stop
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sevenswells
Artist/Song: "We Can't Stop" by Bastille (Miley Cyrus cover)
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Summary: Sherlock, John and Mary make my heart bleed. Although this vid is more about Sherlock and his relationship to John that's bound to change since John is marrying Mary; so it's sort of slashy and sort of angsty idek leave me alone
Rating: Gen
Spoilers: This is pretty much all of the Sign of Three that I crammed into one fanvid, it's even in chronological order
Notes: I sort of slap-dashed this fanvid together because I really, really wanted to make a fanvid about this glorious episode and I really, really wanted to use this particular Bastille gem with it
Made with Windows Live Movie Maker, it was the first time I used it and it was very limited so the editing is a bit basic -- but still, the song matches completely

Okay so long-ass Empty Hearse review, let's get this over with.

Overall that episode left me very conflicted, especially after the Caitlin Moran Debacle; the references to the fans and the fandom didn't feel respectful or an homage but rather dismissive and mocking IMO. Which -- not cool. Or maybe it would have been fine if the creators of the show hadn't repeatedly called the fangirls delusional after playing fast and loose with queer baiting, screaming NO HOMO at the top of their lungs and if there hadn't been Morangate. Also it would actually make a change if the fan viewpoint wasn't constantly played for laughs. Dude, you're fanboys yourselves. Don't think you're better than us, some fics are leagues above this episode, come the fuck on.
There's also a horrible thought that crossed my mind: it's that the treatment of the fans within this episode maybe actually gave Caitlin Moran inspiration and sort of enabled her to do what she did. I'm not saying Gatiss is responsible for what happened, but when you start to make fun of the fans like that I guess increases the odds of something like that happening.
Anyway, my theory is that so far in each season of Sherlock, there's two very good if not brilliant episodes, and then there's always one that's a bit rubbish if not complete crap (The Blind Banker in season 1 and Hounds of the Baskerville in season 2). After watching The Sign of Three, I think The Empty Hearse might very well be the rubbish one. Which is a shame, really, because The Empty House is one of the most iconic Sherlock Holmes stories from canon and, again, most fics that revolved around Sherlock's return during the hiatus were more solid plot-wise and more satisfying emotion-wise. So personal message to Mofftiss: don't mock the fans if you can't do better than them, guys. Try to write good stories. That's what we do.

Let's do the rest in bullet points, since I can't be arsed to write up a proper review:

You left me in the dark )

Hmmm it seems I'm a bit grumpy today so it shows in my review which appears more negative than I intended. I didn't hate that episode all that much, really; it's just that as a season opener for a show that's been on hiatus for TWO YEARS, it felt a bit like a letdown.
Luckily, The Sign of Three set everything right again for me and I think it skyrocketed to first place as my favourite Sherlock episode of all three seasons (even the mystery was good! Well done, show, well done!).

Now I need fics, angsty fanvids and angsty songs to make some angsty fanvids myself. Yeah.

Nevermind The Empty Hearse, wasn't The Sign of Three AN AWESOME EPISODE OR WHAT?????????

OH MY GOD THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT!!!
sevenswells: (Sherlock and security blanket WIN)
I've just watched the Empty Hearse, I need a bit of time to regroup and work out how I precisely felt about it.

Overall, liked it. I think it could have been better, but still, fairly decent writing and mostly good episode.

I need to watch it again and then write more about my feelings.

Just one thing I've decided tho: ANTHEA IS OUR COULSON. That is all.

There's an offline campaign to Save The Hour: the fans are sending postcards to the BBC from all over the world, and I'm participating! They must all arrive on the 4th of March, or one day before or after.
Here's my contribution (with my crappy handwriting):

savethehour postcard

I'll send a couple of postcards more (I made my roommates write them so that they'll think it comes from different persons, I'll also post them from different postboxes in Paris, I'm positively machiavellian haaaaaHAHAHA ahem) but this one was the prettiest, plus there's a lion in it (get it? Get it??)

And don’t forget about the petition guys! Just a few signatures to go before hitting the 15,000 mark! http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/the-bbc-please-commission-a-third-series-of-the-hour-savethehour

You guise, 00Q is a BABY FANDOM.
IT'S ADORABLE.
I was (more or less) there when it was born and now I'm watching it grow with motherly pride. The fans are calling themselves "00Qties" or are hashtagging everything with "#00Qpioneers4satan" (after an inside joke between friends on tumblr apparently) and they're all very cute and enthusiastic and there are more and more fics on AO3 everyday and NOTHING HURTS.

We've discussed it with [livejournal.com profile] berylia, and the reason we think 00Q is a ship that took off so quickly is that right now almost every major fandom is on hiatus. Most of us fangirls are waiting for season 3 of Sherlock, and Teen Wolf , the next Avengers movie and Iron Man 3, and I don't know where they're up to in Supernatural but I'm guessing it must also be on hiatus since, when I look at the people reblogging 00Q stuff on Tumblr, most of the usernames have to do with the aforementioned fandoms. So Skyfall had in fact the right timing to make us fall in love with the pairing, I don't think it was calculated, but well done, and I hope that they're going to take that into account for the next Bond movie, especially since there are rumours that Mr Cumberbatch might be the next Bond villain (personal wishlist: I hope Benedict plays a highly intelligent criminal mastermind that targets Q himself and then Bond has to save his darling from evil!Benny's clutches, IT WOULD BE SUPER AWESOME)

We went to see Skyfall again yesterday, then we watched my DVD of Brideshead Revisited (I LOVED it, it was actually a very good film even though it broke my heart a bit) and now I feel I'm becoming dangerously obsessed with Ben Whishaw, which is really unfair, because I have enough British actors ruining my life already. I learned on Tumblr that Whishaw also played Andrew Scott's gay lover onstage and that fucked me up a bit more and the image in my head alone makes me want to curl up on the floor and start crying.
So at 2 in the morning yesterday I watched interviews of him and completely melted because he's so fucking kawaii and looks so horribly shy and intimidated in front of cameras when he's not acting:

In real life apparently, he's dating Bright Star's music composer Mark Bradshaw AND THEY LOOK REALLY ADORABLE TOGETHER:

SO. FUCKING. KAWAII.

I've heard Skyfall opens in the US starting tomorrow, GO SEE IT, American people from my f-list, you need it in your life!

Billet Skyfall

So awesome. So awesome.

Today was the day of my birthday *party* (yes because I celebrate my birthday twice in a week that's just how I roll) and we went to see Skyfall in the morning.

Spoilers and other stuffs under the cut )
sevenswells: (WTF (Big Bang Theory))
Once upon a time, I swore to [livejournal.com profile] berylia that I would absolutely NOT go see the new James Bond movie.

"The first one was crap," said I, "the second one was SUPER crap, so I'm drawing a line in the fucking sand here, this stops now do you hear me, there's NO WAY IN HELL I'm going to see that third one, I'm not STUPID, okay."
"Oh," said the wench in return, "but did you know that the lovely, lovely Ben Whishaw is going to play Bond's new Q wearing hipster glasses and that there's already fic about a Bond/Q pairing, and there's even a name for that ship, it's called "00Q", isn't that cute...?"
"askjfhfsdgfdkulifdkjhsfdhj," said I with foam around my mouth.

So! I haven't even seen the movie yet but I've accepted my fate, and I'm already drawing porn. Sketch, James Bond/Q with Daniel Craig as Bond and Ben Whishaw as Q, NC-17 and not worksafe, it has been inspired by this gif I've found on tumblr (careful, not safe for work either), I'll post a cleaned-up version later.

Hold your breath and count to ten )

TOO MANY FEELS
TOO MANY FEELS IN ONE EPISODE
I DON'T KNOW WHAT THESE FEELS ARE DOING

It's like those characters being in a law firm is just a pretext for EVERYONE PUTTING THEIR EMOTIONS ON TRIAL AND TESTIFYING ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS IN COURT

IT'S LIKE...

A GIANT METAPHORICAL LAWSUIT AGAINST CARING AND IT'S A LOST CAUSE BUT SOMEHOW CARING IS GOING TO WIN

PEARSON HARDMAN VS. CARING

Mystrade!

Does anyone have good Mystrade recs for me? I've already read At Least There's the Football which was splendid, A Reliable Man which has to be the greatest characterization of Mycroft in the fandom ever, and Puppet On A String which is unbearably good but has left me very frustrated because it's a WIP and I'm gasping for more.

Please give me Mystrade recs, F-list, pleaaaaaase!

P.S.: And here's a beautiful Mystrade fanvid, btw: Those Things You Do by duchesscloverly on Tumblr

RIGHT IN THE FEELS )

God this is just like The Administration! Not that Mike is Warrick (hahaha, I don't think Warrick would be too pleased with the comparison), but Harvey and Donna have the same relationship as Toreth and Sarah, it's so amazing. (by the way, if you haven't read The Administration by Manna Francis yet, you're missing out. See my rec post about it)

I'm in New Zealand trying to fight jet lag by watching the first episode of Julian Fellowes's Titanic TV series (thanks to the ever adorable [livejournal.com profile] evildrem) and I'm finding this guy

INSANELY attractive. I don't even understand why, he's not exactly my type, but every time he's onscreen I find it difficult to concentrate on the dialogue . Plus I have a weakness for serious, dependable elder brothers who take care of their younger brothers, you know I have.

PLEASE do not die, Gorgeous Italian Hunk. I couldn't care less about your brother so far, but after only two scenes with you I think it would pain me very much to see you drown.

Finally (FINALLY!!!!) saw Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] berylia and [livejournal.com profile] miiaah.

I'm not sure this is coherent enough to call it a "review", but there you have it )
