sevenswellsHere we go, no stupid categories, no gifs. This is just the tip of the iceberg, I needed to post this now to get started, but there will be more rec posts to come, if only to get some organization in all the stuff I've faved (and believe me, it goes on forever!).
Most of it is Sherlock/John slash, except when I make the precision it's otherwise.

as_i_am on LJ), but especially A Turn Of Phrase, A Taste of Murder, Really!, and One, Two, Three. She mah homegirl, I loves her and oh, she writes brilliant porn too <3
And anything by abundantlyqueer on AO3 too, especially: Best Laid Etc, Warzone series, Family, Genus, Species, and Two Two One Bravo Baker. Incredibly good author, with glorious sense of detail. I'm addicted to her stuff.
Two awesome ongoing WiPs but that you really really need to read even though they're not finished yet:
-"Collared" byvelvet_mace part 1 and part 2 on the kinkmeme. Fantastic slavefic!AU where John becomes Sherlock's slave. Not as gratuitously kinky as you may think, it actually has a very serious sci-fi flavour to it that I absolutely love. velvet_mace is one of my favourite authors in this fandom anyway, so go read nao.
(Also read, on more or less the same theme but with a vampire!AU variation, the A Priori series by rubberbutton on AO3. Captivating and fantastically well-conducted stuff, a must-read, even if any kind of vampire AU makes you roll your eyes and want to actually kill someone)
-Matchmaker, Matchmaker by Vash the Humanoid Sunshower on ffnet: in which Sherlock plays matchmaker for John and tries to arrange dates with men for him. Until he starts getting jealous. Funny, cute, immensely entertaining series.
(in more or less the same genre, The Everthere byhbomb90 on the kinkmeme, but where it's Sherlock falling in love with another guy and John being jealous. Filled with utterly delicious angst, but, you know, of the good kind)
Then something I read this morning and that almost made me forget breakfast:
-Evidence of Human Life bythesardine . I really need to leave screaming comments of love on the original entries as soon as I have the time. John and Sherlock are stranded on a deserted island. I was absolutely riveted by all the small details, and the characterization, and the general story that is very simple but oh so extremely awesome.
One of the most beautiful fics in the fandom ever, or of any fandom ever:
-Genius Loci by (woe!) anon on the kinkmeme. A vibrant love song to London and Sherlock and John, by London itself which here is a sentient entity. Someone compared this to Neil Gaiman's writing, and they're absolutely right. For someone who loves London as passionately as I do, this fic is an exact reflection of my feelings towards this wonderful city, and it's brilliantly written.
Adventure!fics (shit I ended up doing categories anyway):
-Infiltrate byladyflowdi on AO3. Breathtaking adventure laced with porn, I swear I was standing on my chair screaming from excitement and thrill as I was reaching the end of the fic.
In more or less the same genre, see also This Is Going To Be Fun, by Unsentimentalf, a Sherlock/John/Moriarty fic on AO3, but I have to warn you, it's extremely fucked-up. Sherlock appears to be an extremely shady character in this (well, let's say it, a downright absolute huge dick) but if you read it through the end, John takes everything in hand and sorts shit out like a mofo. The whole fic is a bit harsh, morally speaking I mean, so don't read if you're a bit sensitive.
-Apotheosis bymad_maudlin . Polly, you'll like this one: awesome variation on The Empty House where super badass John is the one who pretends to be dead so he can take Moriarty down. The whole fic is beautifully constructed, absolutely needs to be canon.
Outstanding writing:
-Deep-Sea Flower bydisastrolabe , part of a whole series actually; I adore this author's writing style, it's very poetic and melodious, I could read her stuff forever.
-First Words byirisbleufic . Gen fic about the Holmeses. This one squeezed my heart and never let go; painfully adorable, or adorably painful, you choose.
Fics that will make you laugh so hard you'll bust a gut:
-Shopping List - June byaslipperysloth : John writes bad femslash and gets (unknowingly) beta'ed by Sherlock. My favourite thing was the line about Narnia; I had to actually stop to learn how to breathe again before continuing my reading.
-Captain John Watson, Genetics and Other Crazy Things bycyerus : not only funny, but also hot. John is actually Captain Jack Harkness's son. And suddenly, everything makes sense. Well, to me at least XD
-Bromance Isn't Dead bycyerus : epic bromance between John and Lestrade. So adorable and funny it will make you choke. And then feel warm, fuzzy feelings all day.
Hot hot porn:
-The Experiment byterebi_me . For some reason, I thought Sherlock extremely believable and in-character in this fic in particular. And there is no more potent mix than hot and IC for me.
-Once and Twice by anon on the kinkmeme. Dom!Sherlock, sub!John, with a dry, punch-like writing that proves itself extremely efficient.
-The Perfect Specimen bycleo_2010 . Sizequeen!Sherlock, and monstrously!endowed!John, and I can't say much more, really. Very hot, and incredibly funny. Sneaky!Sherlock is... not sneaky at all XD
Gen fics with the whole gang:
-The Staff of Baker Street High School by anon on the kinkmeme. High School AU with Sherlock as a Chemistry teacher and John as a Biology teacher, and the others are there too. Ridiculously in-character and utterly amusing.
-The Sherlock Holmes Club by Silver Pard on ffnet. The Met's loveable gang of misfits, regularly gathering to talk about the plague of their collective lives.
The fic of "WTF is this epicness I can't even oh God I'm so glad I'm part of such an impossible fandom":
-The Theory of Narrative Causality by anon on the kinkmeme (WiP). Sherlock and John are BNFs who meet through the Sherlock Holmes (ACD canon and '09 movie) fandom.
Crazy meta fic that will send your mind spiralling if you actually start to think about how meta it is. Totally broke the fourth wall of awesome.
And finally, a nice, swinging, *very* appropriate little fanvid by multiKitten to finish it off, on the song "Oh No!" by Marina and the Diamonds:

Can't fault Everthere's writer too much, 'cause she's got another fic where Sherlock is clammed up from his past traumatic or coercive encounters from his past, which makes John think Sherlock's asexual or not into him.
