So. Thor movie.
Jul. 30th, 2010 11:37 amRemember that post where I nerdgasmed all over the news that Kenneth Brannagh was to direct the Thor movie?
Well. Since then, I came back down to earth a bit, I guess. Or maybe more like crashed.
First, no Aleksander Skarsgard to play Thor, no Josh Hartnett as Loki either.

Instead, it's Chris Hemsworth (completely unknown actor whose most mainstream role was to play Kirk's short-lived father in the Star Trek movie) and Tom Hiddleston (never heard of him either) who endorse the respective roles of Thor and Loki.

Okay, why not, but it still made me sad; I'm really gonna miss the visual candy (so long, gorgeous young men entangled in epic fight... sniff...)
Then the first picture leaked and I must admit I was really excited:

The costume looked like Olivier Coipel's magnificent, super-badass take on my favourite Norse god/Marvel character:

So, yay.
But then this production image leaked, and I was HORRIFIED. It looked like a cross between Saint Seiya and GI Joe, and I didn't get Odin's golden Pringle on the eye at all. Mjollnir, what did they do to you?? What the fuck? It ended up on Perez Hilton's blog with (justified) comments about how ridiculous it looked, and I thought here's to credibility and respectability, thanks, assholes, it's not like we comics geeks are considered morons with Peter Pan syndrome already.
Finally, the trailer showcased at Comic Con found its way to the Internet yesterday. Paramount did their best to vaporize all traces of it during the night, but I managed to view it at last:

I... don't know. The costumes and backgrounds look a lot better, thank fuck, but Asgard looks... meh. I really liked Coipel's more medieval Asgard (with the "plumbing problems" it entailed, hahahahaha XD) but this looks... I dunno, too high-tech for me.
Also, just how many storylines are there? And how come Donald Blake is so ninja all of a sudden?
And then Natalie Portman. If Sif's role is lessened in any way because of her, I'm going to be really, really pissed.
If you don't know who Sif is, meet my favourite image from any comics ever (made of utter WIN):

If there's only one female character in the entire history of comics that deserves dead serious respect, that's the one. Fuck her up in any way, Brannagh, and I will hunt you down.
I must say, though, to be fair, that I don't care about Hemsworth's face, but his abs sure look fab. I like his voice too; so maybe he'll be a decent Thor.
Waiting for the movie, then. We'll see, won't we?
Well, if it sucks, there's always the second movie from the Chronicles of Riddick trilogy to come out the same year: that way, all my testosterone-addicted fangirl dreams won't be completely crushed. I hope.
