Some more raving about Sherlock...

...and then I promise I'll leave you alone.
Probably.
I read The Science of Deduction and John's blog and I nearly died of the MOE - why is everything so perfect about this show? ;____; John describing Sherlock on their first meeting (omg teh squee) and saying that he was "clearly a bit public school" made me think (well, more like fantasize, especially when I researched what "public school" meant in England -- I could guess but I had no clue ^^ ). Of course Sherlock would have gone to a public school, and Mycroft too, and to the same one, obviously. Preferably a boarding one, because that's one of the greatest British contributions to ghei fantasies around the world -- I'm thinking Eton, because hey, it's Mycroft, and Eton is where you start to rule the world. Sherlock's family would have sent Sherlock there too just because it's what they do -- and so that Mycroft could keep an eye on him a little (squee!).
Plus, just look at the uniforms there -- aren't they absolutely fantastic? Can't you just picture both Mycroft and Sherlock very well in these?

(God I love England. Sigh. So MOE.)
I also discovered the origin of the word "fag" (hey, I mainly speak French, I couldn't possibly know, ok?); the wikipedia article made me giggle like a five-year-old, especially because of the term "fag-master" (I'm sorry, I'm still giggling at it, I just can't control it XD). I can just imagine Sherlock on his first day of school being picked on as a fag (in the first sense of the word, of course. Of course.) as part of the whole hazing ritual and turning the balance of power on his seniors by verbally ruining the living shit out of them in two or three sentences. And after that everybody would just generally avoid him and leave him alone for the rest of his school career (except the ones who don't know better, but they'd end up learning too). OMG I can imagine Mycroft trying to arrange stuff for Sherlock from the shadows without Sherlock knowing and of course Sherlock would know anyway, and he would eventually come up to Mycroft to deliver the taunting of a lifetime and tell him to mind his own business and go back to blackmailing the Headmaster and whatnot. Sherlock's a free bitch, baby.
Sherlock would not be top of his class, just because most of the subjects wouldn't interest him and he would just erase all unuseful informations from his hard drive (except that the French teacher hides to smoke and she recently had an abortion due to medical complications, or that the History and Geography teacher used to have a lisp when he was young but he fixed it by seeing a speech therapist), but he would be very good at Physics and Chemistry -- he could even be the teacher's pet, and obviously he would take full advantage of it like he does with Molly, manipulating charming the teacher into leaving him the lab outside teaching hours to let him conduct his experiments, for example.
Is it very wrong that I fantasize so much about Sherlock receiving corporal punishment? Maybe it's because he's such a control freak, I dunno, I just love the idea of him being whipped or flogged or caned, and I bet he would love it too (maybe my mind's just twisted from having read The Administration saga and I just see Warrick everywhere).A pity that Corporal punishments aren't administered anymore in Eton, it stopped in the 80's (O____o that's actually a bit late in the century, in my opinion, I thought it would have stopped sooner, with the advent of Freudian psychology and everything). Eton's wikipedia article says that "Anthony Chenevix-Trench, Head Master from 1964 to 1970, abolished the birch and replaced it with caning, also applied to the bare posterior, which he administered privately in his office." *snerks* I bet he did.
Eton has an official school song! And it's in Latin! Oh god. Why the fuck do I find that hot? It's ridiculous! I'm just fucking sick. *listens for the umpteenth time*
Did I mention how much I loved Mycroft and Sherlock's interaction? I just love dysfunctional families and the Holmes look majorly fucked-up. I think the squee factor here is that I think they appreciate each other but are just too clever and too much of control freaks to express anything emotional -- so it shows through very, very subtle subtext, so subtle in fact that it leaves Watson completely out of it. This scene in the third episode where Watson just watches them playing their little power game is delightful -- he represents the spectator viewpoint, the "normal" counterpart to this very abnormal scene and just like us, he can't possibly guess what's underlying and what's at stake between the two Holmes.
Mycroft and Sherlock are kind of like Atreides to me -- so much stuff and power play going on in a simple nod or a formal greeting. I think their mother must be as insane as them - I'd looooove to see Mrs Holmes next season, I bet she's absolutely terrifying.
For some reason, I adore Anderson too. It's just too funny the way Sherlock bullies him and how Anderson doesn't really seem to care -- I don't want to see them romantically involved, I mean, Sherlock and John are just this unbreachable fortress of an OTP, but I think it's a brilliant character and I hope we'll see more of him next season too.
Shit. Now I really want to write fic. I shouldn't. I don't have the time and I'm not smart enough and I won't even mention my English which is as crappy as ever... But. Augh. God. So tempting.
Please tell me I shouldn't.
Probably.

Date: 2010-08-23 12:15 pm (UTC)asdfghjkl boarding school Sherlock. DO WANT!
I'm not that familiar with the original works (read a few here and there) so the existence of Mycroft really surprised me. To think that there is this constant prick in Sherlock's side amuses me to no end. I bet it consumes him more than he let show and it probably annoys him more that he can't just explain it away.
I want to see their Christmas family dinner- it will make a great omake.
Oh I'm very sure Sherlock would enjoy his first whipping, the novelty of it is bound to interest him. But unlike Warrick he probably won't seek it. Physical stimulation seems to do very little for him and will bore him eventually- mind fuck and mind games are what he's after ( my guess)
This show and specifically Cumberbatch is the doom of me. I've been desperately watching and listening to anything that Cumberbatch is part of. He is just so beautiful to watch and asdfllkhgg
Watch me encourage you in the crazy.

Fic is already on the way... T0T I'm really fucking insane.

As for me I already knew Mycroft existed (and I know he's supposed to be even more intelligent than Sherlock. Can you imagine? O___o) but I must say Gatiss made the character more interesting than he's ever been. It's also very amusing to me that it's one of the creators of the show who gets to play him -- so it's really like Mycroft is this semi-omnipotent shadow king in some sort of crazy metatextual way, oh god I love it.

If they really end up showing it, I think I would DIE and go to fangirl heaven.

Mmmh yes... unless he's addicted to it =D OMG the drug addiction has just been hinted at, but I would be over the moon if they dug a little bit deeper in that -- a very physical flaw for such a brilliant, ethereal mind, don't you think? I think the contrast of Sherlock having a physical drawback just makes him more interesting.

I'M SO WITH YOU ON THIS.
I mean, I stalked him on the Net up to his IMdB page and look what I read there:
"He went to Harrow, one of the most prestigious public schools in the country. Benedict's first ever acting role was when he was still at school. He played Titania, Queen of the Fairies in the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream. During his gap year before going to Manchester University, he spent some time teaching English at a Tibetan monastery."
...
Why is this man so perfect? T0T Stupid Tibetan monks, they probably didn't even appreciate the chance they got -- I, for one, want him to teach ME English. I totally need it, okay?
Dear Mr Benedict Cumberbatch,
Mine english very badly speak, Mr Cumberbatch, please to come home to me to teach, and you wear purple shirt must, okay?

I've always imagined that he had it under control, not quite an addiction. But that's how it always starts anyway. It would be epic to see him fall prey to his addiction. One day he realises he's no longer in control and cannot stop at will ( Then Watson comes to the rescue!)
Oh gawd, like I really need the image of him teaching English to Tibetan kids. My insides are just a pile of wobbly things now(and forever). And how much do I want to watch him in a play, to see him in 3d to know his voice....WHY DOES HE DO THIS TO US!!!! WE ARE NOT 15 AND I ALREADY HAVE MY KAME.
Please to tell me when and where your first lesson with Cumberbatch is to be held. I cannot promise I won't disrupt the lesson with random squeals and sighs.
Also Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch , how is a name so damn sexy?

Date: 2010-08-24 02:50 pm (UTC)I know... It kills me to find his fucking name sexy too, it's ridiculous. You're right. It's like we're 15 all over again, how horrible! °____°

Date: 2010-08-24 01:06 pm (UTC)I haven't been sensible at all, I don't know what got into me, AND I REALLY DIDN'T NEED ANOTHER FANDOM EITHER, what with the Glee food porn saga I need to finish, and I'm supposed to be busy WORKING right now, people are counting on me and I really can't let them down and tell me what am I doing?
OBSESSING LIKE A CRAZED FANGIRL OVER FUCKING "SHERLOCK".
I blame Cumberbatch's cheekbones. And the voice porn. And the amazing use of Mycroft's character. And all the fucking ghei innuendo, which is really unfair towards my weakness of character, I just can't resist, I'm not equipped for that. And the squee-inducing fake websites. And... just... everything about this show. It's like they raped my mind and I'm asking for more.
I swear sympathize, my dear. I really do.

God.

Thank you FOREVER for your input, bb!!! I did do my research but I never knew the cliché I had in my head (which, oddly enough, derived mostly from manga I've read and Japanese animation) was actual fact!!!
Now this opens a whole new world of perspectives for me; I kind of squee'd out loud reading your comment (which is a little embarrassing, actually). You said you went to a boarding school yourself; was it single-sex? Don't hesitate to tell me more if you will, I'm DYING to know more! *flails frantically*
I love your country, you know. XD

Date: 2010-08-27 03:53 pm (UTC)From the perspective of a girls' boarding school, I can tell you that there was a culture of "stalking" which was completely accepted. Boarding schools exist as isolated communities, so they have their own rules that don't apply in the real world. I was boyish (though not out as a lesbian), so I had some stalkers. There was even one girl who cut and dyed her hair like me and would smile at me in the corridors. She was actually gay, but most of the girls who "stalked" people weren't.
In boys' boarding schools, that relationship gets taken advantage of a lot more, because those doing the admiring are a lot older than those being admired. Older boys can also learn fairly quickly which boys don't mind being admired, because at boarding school, everything's pretty close-knit. Most people are in dormitories or sometimes cubs (a large room split into cubicles) so they're never alone. You learn about people fairly quickly like that, and people learn about you.
By the way, I love this country too. Did you want to know anything else?

The humanity! Nothing has changed much since Ancient Greece, has it? Well, male-wise, anyway -- but then again changing and improving themselves had never been a major male trait XD
Thank you for answering my question, I'll *definitely* get back at you if I have more, if that's okay with you!^^ Right now I'm just °0° after reading your comment
