Arthur Conan Doyle: he invented fandom
Jun. 26th, 2011 09:00 pmNo horrible nightmares, just a really good day today. I know how to treat myself well.

So yeah, I've finally started reading A Study In Scarlet, and I'm surprised myself at how much I love it. Of course I'm very aware that fandom has ruined me forever because I'm reading it as if it were a fanfic and squeeing pretty much at every page, but still. Gatiss, Moffat, Ritchie, just... make them gay officially, okay? Like, married and shit. ACD would approve like a mofo from the depths of his grave, I swear. EVEN IN CANON THEY ARE SO ADORABLE TOGETHER I CAN'T EVEN.
No Sunday Porn today because I'm smashed because of all the sun and fresh air, my life is so hard. But I'll probably have stuff to show you tomorrow.

Date: 2011-06-27 12:44 pm (UTC)Also: regarding this; Gatiss, Moffat, Ritchie, just... make them gay officially, okay? Like, married and shit. — I once read a fairly awesome blog post in which the author complained about all the homoerotic subtext in Ritchie!SH; not because she disliked it, but because she wanted them to actually go all the way. We keep getting subtext, all the time, everywhere, but that subtext rarely ever gets to become text, unlike most of the heteroromantic subtext. See, say, Bones, which is all about the UST between the gal and the guy, and will they ever get it on, and I haven't seen it all yet but I'm ready to bet that yeah, they will. Eventually. Gay subtext, though? almost never.
There've been SH adaptations in which Holmes and Irene had a kid, for Chrissake, but gay!Holmes&Watson is somehow disrespectful to the original canon, and I am so fucking tired of it. I want the real deal, not just hints at what might happen. I want two of my favourite characters ever to actually be together in at least one adaptation, so that people can actually bash their heads against the fact, and stick it up their arses if they don't like it. I love all the hints and jokes and clues, but I want more. I want beloved characters of literature to say, Hello, we're not heterosexual; and also: It's okay. Maybe then people will actually start to change.
FUCK THIS. THE END.
